Moonlet and Wormhole: Four years as cross-chain guardian

In August 2021, Moonlet was announced as one of the initial Guardian nodes securing the Wormhole network. This marked the beginning of a long-term commitment to one of the most critical challenges in Web3: cross-chain interoperability. Four years later, Moonlet remains a core part of Wormhole’s guardian set, helping secure one of the industry’s most widely used interoperability protocols.
Today, Wormhole secures over 40 chains and continues to scale cross-chain capabilities for apps and protocols building in an increasingly multi-chain world. It enables secure, decentralized transfers of tokens, NFTs, and arbitrary data between disparate blockchains such as Ethereum, Solana, Sui, and more. And Moonlet has been there every step of the way.
Where it all began: Wormhole’s mission
Wormhole was introduced in 2021 as a generic message-passing protocol designed to enable cross-chain communication. In simpler terms, it allows assets and information to move freely and securely between different blockchain ecosystems.1
With bridges often being the target of attacks, Wormhole brought a new level of security to the interoperability layer by introducing a decentralized network of Guardians (independent validator nodes responsible for attesting to cross-chain messages).2
Moonlet joined this initial Guardian set alongside other trusted infrastructure providers like Chorus One, P2P Validator, and Everstake. For us, it was not just a technical challenge, but an opportunity to help secure the foundation of a multi-chain future.
What are Moonlet’s responsibilities as a Wormhole Guardian?
As a Guardian, Moonlet operates a secure, always-on validator node that observes on-chain events and signs messages that facilitate cross-chain transfers.
Our core responsibilities include:
- Maintaining high uptime and responsiveness to ensure real-time attestation of messages.
- Running high-availability infrastructure to support Wormhole’s bridge contracts across multiple chains.
- Securing private key operations with robust hardware and software isolation protocols.
- Monitoring message flows and participating in consensus that validates messages passed between chains.
With 99.9% uptime across our validator and RPC, we’ve continuously met the strict performance requirements of Wormhole’s security model.
What Milestones have we achieved with Wormhole?
Over the last four years, our partnership with Wormhole has scaled alongside the protocol’s growth. Here are some highlights:
- Zero critical incidents impacting our node’s performance or message signing reliability.
- Over 40 connected chains supported through the Wormhole network, including Solana, Ethereum, Cosmos, and more.
- 99.9% operational uptime for our Wormhole Guardian infrastructure, contributing to uninterrupted cross-chain communications.
- Participation in Wormhole upgrades, from the introduction of the generic messaging layer to the expansion of chain integrations.
Our performance as a Guardian is monitored using Moonlet’s own analytics and AI-powered monitoring tools, which help us maintain high availability and rapidly address anomalies.
What our team says about Wormhole
“Joining Wormhole back in 2020, before cross-chain messaging was even a mainstream topic, has been one of the most exciting chapters of our journey at Moonlet. From the early days of testing and bootstrapping the Guardian set to now securing over 40 chains, we’ve witnessed first-hand how committed the Wormhole team is to solving one of the hardest problems in blockchain: interoperability. The professionalism, vision, and sheer technical depth across everyone involved—from core engineers to ecosystem leads—have made it a standout experience."
What Wormhole is building isn’t just a bridge—it’s a truly universal messaging layer that’s laying the groundwork for a permissionless, chain-agnostic future.
"We’re proud to contribute to this mission alongside some of the most respected infrastructure teams in the space, including Chorus One, Figment, Staking Facilities, Everstake, and even Google Cloud.”
Looking forward: A shared mission for the multi-chain world
Moonlet’s purpose is to enable the next generation of Web3 by delivering high-performance, secure, and compliant infrastructure. Wormhole’s mission—to connect blockchains and enable a permissionless cross-chain future—aligns closely with our own.
As Wormhole continues to expand its ecosystem and capabilities, Moonlet is committed to scaling with it: enhancing our infrastructure, evolving our security model, and helping secure the pathways between chains.
Together, we’re mapping the Web3 universe.
